Gail Oakley

Gail Oakley graduated from University of East Anglia with a degree in English and Drama more years ago than she cares to remember!  Having qualified as a teacher, she went on to teach GCSE and A level Drama in a number of local schools.

Gail is currently bringing up her two young sons and working as a freelance theatre practitioner.  She provides LAMDA exam tuition, supply teaching and bespoke workshops for both primary and secondary pupils in the local area. She also works for two other Portsmouth based companies – “Pamodzi Creatives” as a Director and Dramaturg and also “The Young Creatives Portsmouth” as a Drama Coach running sessions for their newly opened theatre arts classes based in Havant.

In October 2016 she directed the site specific performance “10,000 Children”, for Pamodzi Creatives, and in February of last year Pamodzi successfully performed their collaborative dance theatre production “What Are You Doing Here Mate?” at Bernie Grants Arts Centre in London.

She has previously worked for “One-Off Productions” directing and performing recommended texts for school audiences.  Work for “One-Off” has included directing “Blue Remembered Hills” (Dennis Potter) and appearing as Laura in “The Glass Menagerie” (Tennessee Williams).

Gail has over 15 years of experience working with Drama and young people and over these years she has become no less passionate about the importance of the role of theatre within education and feels it is something that all children should have access to.  She is very excited to be working with Big Mouth Theatre.
